Hungary Vignette Price Changes for 2026 Announced
The Hungarian toll operator NÚSZ has announced a price increase for motorway vignettes. The new prices will take effect from 1 January 2026 and will apply to all vehicle and vignette categories. Annual vignettes, which will be available from 8 December 2025, are also affected by the price increase. Please note that annual vignettes purchased in December are only valid from 1 January 2026 and remain valid until 31 January 2027. A new regional M1 annual authorisation has also been introduced as a cost effective alternative to purchasing multiple county vignettes.

Why Is a Vignette Needed in Hungary?
Since the introduction of the electronic toll system in 2014, the use of the electronic vignette, also known as the “e-matrica,” has been mandatory for driving on toll roads in Hungary. The toll revenues are used to maintain and modernise the road network. Please note that vignettes are not available at all border crossings and expressways. It is therefore recommended to register your vignette before starting your journey.
What Is the County Vignette in Hungary?
In addition to the nationwide motorway vignette, Hungary offers a county vignette, valid only within a specific county (similar to a state or region). This regional vignette is a more affordable option but is only suitable if you are certain you will stay within a single county. For travel beyond a single county, the nationwide annual vignette is required.
New from 2026: Hungary has also introduced a regional M1 annual vignette, valid on the toll road network within the counties of Pest, Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom and Győr-Moson-Sopron. This can be a more cost-effective option for drivers who frequently travel along the M1 corridor.
When Does the 2026 Annual Vignette Go on Sale?
Pre-sales for Hungary's 2026 annual vignettes will begin on 8 December 2025. The vignettes will be valid from 1 January 2026.
