Toll regulations for lorries
In Hungary, instead of paying a flat-rate toll for a lorry, you have to pay a route-dependent toll. This is based on the kilometres driven, the permissible total weight, the number of axles, the road type and the environmental class. You must register the lorry toll in the Hungarian HU-GO system.
Fines
If you drive without a valid e-vignette, you risk heavy fines. We therefore recommend buying a vignette for your category before you set off.
How long are you allowed to drive in Hungary without a vignette?
If you accidentally drive on a route requiring a vignette and notice this, you still have 60 minutes to buy a valid vignette. You will then not receive a fine.
How is the vignette obligation checked?
Compliance with the car toll on motorways is monitored using video surveillance. The cameras are often located directly after the border crossing.
What penalties do I face without an e-vignette?
You will receive a fine by post. This has to be paid within 60 days, otherwise the fine will increase considerably.
